HEADINGLEY AREA GUIDE FOR STUDENTS

PROVIDING ALL THE AMENITIES THAT YOU WOULD NORMALLY FIND IN A CITY CENTRE

About Headingley

One of the most student-friendly parts of Leeds, Headingley has all you could ask for - green spaces, a wide variety of bars and restaurants, leftfield arts venues and plenty of shops where you can pick up all your essentials in a matter of minutes between your front door and Otley Road.

Things to do in Headingley

Leeds Rhinos

The current Super League champions ply their trade at the iconic Headingley Stadium. At a Rhinos match, you can watch top-class rugby league from the terraces without paying over the odds, while you’re never too far from a boozer to toast their latest win!

Headingley Arc

More than just another trendy bar, Headingley Arc is a great live music venue, hosting performances from local artists eager to make their big break. You can also watch live sporting events and take part in the weekly quiz from 9pm if you want to test your trivia!

Arndale Centre

Although not a shopping centre in the traditional sense, this row of shops on Otley Road contains plenty of chain stores where you can stock up on the basics. It’s easy to get to and from university by bus too, so you can buy lunch before arriving on campus.

Working in Headingley

There are a number of job agencies in Headingley, many of which actively look to find part-time jobs for students living locally. Meanwhile, at the Leeds Beckett campus, there is a careers service where, after graduation, you can get help in finding that first full-time role you’ve worked so hard to get.

Getting around

The 56 is best for going between Headingley and the university district.

Train

Headingley Train Station is located near Kirkstall Lane and is on the Wharfedale Line. Trains to and from Leeds Station take 11 minutes either way, stopping at Burley Park along the way. Trains from Headingley also go to Harrogate and York, while there’s a nearby taxi rank.

Our student accommodation in Headingley

Whether you want to be in the heart of the area, close to campus or somewhere quiet, there’s plenty of student flats in Headingley to choose from. It’s a safe, well-connected part of Leeds with flatshares, single rooms and one-bed flats, all of which are well-maintained to boot.

Popular areas around Headingley

Meanwood

Just a stone’s throw from Headingley, Meanwood is an emerging part of Leeds where you can find cheap shops, alternative bars and, of course, the Meanwood Valley Trail. It’s also pretty accessible too, served by regular buses in and out of Leeds City Centre.

Hyde Park

This part of town is adjacent to Headingley and, as such, is full to the brim with amenities and cultural venues. It’s also closer to the main campuses of Leeds and Leeds Beckett Universities, as well as the Leeds College of Art, so if it’s convenience you’re after, Hyde Park is perfect.

Becketts Park

Situated to the west of Headingley, Becketts Park is home to the Headingley Campus of Leeds Beckett University. It’s also one of the leafiest parts of the city, owing to its proximity to a park of the same name and its tree-lined streets.
