More than just an extension of Headingley, Far Headingley is a thriving student area in its own right. It’s where the famous Otley Run of pubs begins and isn’t too far from the Leeds Beckett Headingley Campus. This area also benefits from being so close to some of Leeds’ finest parks and green spaces, as well as having quite a few arts venues.
Not too dissimilar from Hyde Park Picture House, this iconic, small cinema hosts a mix of arthouse films and Hollywood blockbusters. They also show documentaries too and are open for most days of the week, while being the oldest cinema in Leeds, it has some interesting architectural features to look at before the film starts.
You haven’t truly lived in Far Headingley until you’ve tackled this world-famous pub crawl. Starting at The Public House on Otley Road, you can stop for a pint or two at Woodies, The Three Horseshoes and The New Inn, before moving into Headingley.
Built in the mid-19th century on land owned by the Beckett family, this magnificent church dominates the local skyline and is a popular place for locals to worship. The surrounding gardens are pretty well-kept and provide further room for some quiet time.

This campus is handily placed in between where Far Headingley and Headingley meet. It’s where a lot of the sport and language-based courses are taught, while it’s well-connected with the main campus just outside the City Centre by bus. There’s also a student union building where you can grab a cheap meal to go before your next seminar.

Although it’s a little further away than Leeds Beckett, it’s still pretty simple to get to Leeds Trinity, while having everything on site from the student union to the shops and bars means that you won’t have to leave campus to get something to eat or revise in peace.
Many of the part-time jobs for students in Far Headingley are in pubs, bars, shops, cafes and restaurants. Although there are a couple of job agencies in nearby Headingley, the jobshops at Leeds Beckett and Leeds Trinity Universities are your best bet for finding a role to help supplement your income.
Most buses serving Far Headingley go up and down Otley Road. The main routes are the 1, 6, 97/97A and X84. Buses take around 20-25 minutes to get to Leeds City Centre and less than five minutes to get to the centre of Headingley. The 97/97A and X84 go up to Otley and Guiseley via Yeadon.
Far Headingley is closest to Headingley station, which is a mile south of the shops on Otley Road. It takes 11 minutes to get to Leeds Station and around five minutes to go northwards to Horsforth if you want to get to Leeds Trinity University in a hurry.

Headingley Stadium is one of the most impressive cricket venues in the country. As well as being home to Yorkshire, the current county champions, it’s also a regular venue for test matches for the England team, which features many Yorkshire players including Joe Root.

This state-of-the-art sports facility is owned by the University of Leeds, although it can be used by anyone. Playing fields for football, tennis, badminton and rugby are well-maintained and are close by to a few cricket pitches if you want to play something more leisurely.

This amateur cricket club play their games in both Headingley and Bramhope. They have a first, second and third XI and play midweek and weekend fixtures, while their ground is sometimes available to hire if you fancy a quick game of Twenty20.

This off-licence with a twist sells more than just the main lager and bitter brands. They sell a wide selection of real ales from breweries across Yorkshire, as well as some from as far afield as the USA and Australia. Definitely the place to go if you don’t fancy braving the queues at Woodies!

This PC repair shop is just the place to get your laptop fixed if it’s become damaged. It’s also worth visiting if you want a cheap laptop to use for typing your essay up with, or even if you need accessories like a keyboard, mouse or speakers without having to cough up too much.
The four pubs in Far Headingley on the Otley Run are all good enough to spend a night in without moving from your seat. Taking The New Inn as an example, you can watch the football or rugby there. At the Three Horseshoes, they have a resident DJ spinning classic and present-day tunes.

A cozy little Italian, Giorgio’s is different from others in and around Far Headingley for one reason - it has a dedicated student menu. Classic dishes such as spag bol sit alongside less common ones such as parmigiana alla melanzane (baked aubergine), while there’s 20% off the a la carte menu with a valid student card.
Beckett Park is on the edge of Far Headingley and is full of places to sit down and watch the world go by. Further east, the Meanwood Valley Trail leads towards Beckside Gardens, which has its own cafe and leads you towards the edge of Leeds City Centre southwards.

Just down Otley Road, Headingley is an incredibly vibrant part of Leeds, full to the brim with shops and bars that cater to students and locals alike. It’s well-placed for getting to campuses north and south of the area too.
This quiet, serene residential area is close to some of Leeds’ biggest and best green spaces. It’s also got a few hidden gems in the form of coffee shops, Italian restaurants and playing fields to enjoy as well.
This fast-growing suburb has all you could ask for as a student - cheap shops, unique restaurants, frequent buses to and from Leeds City Centre. There’s also plenty of different kinds of accommodation to choose from, whether you want to live alone or with your mates.
